    Experienced Chef

    We are looking for an experienced, confident and enthusiastic chef to join our busy kitchen team at Mamoosh Riverside Café.

    This is a permanent, full-time position working 40 hours per week, with genuine opportunities to grow and progress as the company expands.

    Mamoosh is a small, independent, family-run company established in 2015. Our Riverside café has been operating for the past two years and continues to grow. We serve Middle Eastern mezze, salads and dips alongside popular café favourites, including brunch dishes, toasties, homemade soups, quiches, savoury pastries, cakes and desserts.

    The café is conveniently located next to Newhaven Town train station and close to local bus stops, making it easy to reach by public transport.

    Hourly Rate 

    £13.50 – £14.50

    About the role

    The position involves a mixture of opening, daytime and closing shifts, with Sundays worked on a rota. Occasional evening shifts for supper clubs / private events.

    The café’s opening hours are 7am - 4pm, Tuesday – Saturday, 9am – 3pm on Sunday. We do not presently operate an evening service.

    Key responsibilities

    • Preparing and cooking breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes
    • Working efficiently during a busy food service
    • Maintaining excellent standards of food quality and presentation
    • Maintaining a clean, organised and safe kitchen and following HACCP, food-hygiene and allergen procedures
    • Supporting the wider kitchen and café team when required

    What we are looking for

    The successful candidate will:

    • Have solid experience as a chef or line cook in a busy café, restaurant or similar kitchen
    • Be confident preparing and cooking food in a busy environment
    • Sound understanding of essential cooking and food-preparation techniques
    • Sound understanding of HACCP, food hygiene and allergen control
    • Be comfortable working under pressure during a busy service
    • Be organised, reliable and able to manage their time well
    • Have excellent attention to detail and take pride in the food they produce
    • Work well as part of a team and bring a positive attitude to the workplace
    • Be willing to work a mixture of shifts, including Sundays on a rota
    • Have some basic baking or pastry experience

    Part-time Weekend Barista 

    Mamoosh Riverside Café is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic barista to join our team and provide weekend cover.

    Mamoosh has been growing since 2015, and our Riverside café opened in June 2024. The business continues to evolve and expand, offering genuine opportunities for the right person to develop and grow with us.

    We are a very busy café, producing up to 300 coffees on our busiest days. You must be able to remain calm under pressure, work efficiently and consistently, and provide friendly, professional customer service.

    What we’re looking for:

    * Ideally, at least one year of barista experience
    * Confident working in a fast-paced, high-volume café
    * Strong latte art skills are essential
    * Friendly, reliable and comfortable working as part of a team
    * Available to work weekends

    Coffee calibration and dialling-in can be taught.
