Celebrate International Hummus Day with Mamoosh Bakery

As International Hummus Day approaches, there’s no better time to celebrate one of the world’s most beloved and versatile dishes – hummus. At Mamoosh Bakery, we’re excited to join the global hummus-loving community in honouring this creamy, nutritious delight. This year, we’re marking the occasion with a special twist – on 13th May we will be serving Foul-Mudammas (also known as Ful Medames) at Mamoosh Riverside, that will bring a taste of Egyptian tradition to your table. Foul Mudammas is a hearty meal on its own often served with warm pittas and it can be turned into lush vegan feast with the addition of falafel, hummus or baba ganoush.

The magic of hummus

Hummus, a creamy blend of chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, and garlic, has become a global sensation, loved for its rich flavour, creamy texture, and impressive health benefits. Packed with plant-based protein, fibre, and essential nutrients, hummus is a nutritious choice for anyone seeking a wholesome, heart-healthy snack.

Why hummus is packed with goodness:

  • It’s a complete protein source for vegetarians and vegans, supporting muscle health and energy levels.
  • High in fibre, it aids in digestion and helps maintain a healthy gut.
  • It is full of heart-healthy fats: Tahini provide healthy, unsaturated fats that support cardiovascular health.
  • Don’t forget the vitamins and minerals: folate, iron, phosphorus, and magnesium, essential for overall wellness.

Hummus as the heart of summer mezze and perfect for picnics

Hummus isn’t just a dip – it’s the heart of many mezze platters, perfect for sharing with family and friends. Pair it with our freshly baked Mamoosh pitta bread, crunchy crudités, or warm falafel for an unforgettable spread. It’s also a fantastic addition to picnics, packed lunches, or quick snacks, offering a burst of flavour and nutrition with every bite.

A special treat for International Hummus Day

To make this year’s celebration even more special, Mamoosh is offering a traditional Egyptian dish – Foul-Mudammas. This hearty, savoury dish made from slow-cooked fava beans, garlic, lemon juice, and aromatic spices is a staple of Middle Eastern breakfasts and street food, loved for its comforting, earthy flavours and rich nutritional profile. Pair it with fresh hummus and pitta for a complete, satisfying meal.

Where did hummus originate?

Hummus has a fascinating history that stretches back centuries. It is believed to have originated in the Middle East, with early mentions in Egyptian and Levantine cuisines.
