Mamoosh at the Houses of Parliament: Celebrating Sussex Food on a National Stage
In January, Mamoosh was proud to be invited to the Houses of Parliament as part of a Sussex food producers’ exhibition, celebrating the quality, diversity and craftsmanship of independent food businesses from the county.
The event, held in the House of Commons Jubilee Room, was organised by Horsham MP John Milne, bringing together politicians, Lords and parliamentary staff to experience The Best of Sussex Food. Mamoosh was one of a small group of carefully selected Sussex producers invited to showcase their products and values at the heart of UK government.
For Mamoosh, it was a chance to do what they do best: serve freshly baked white and wholemeal pittas, handcrafted Middle Eastern dips and artisan pastries, all made in Sussex using time-honoured Mediterranean baking techniques.
Feeding Parliament with fresh, handcrafted food
During their midday break, MPs and Lords from across the UK stopped by to taste Mamoosh’s signature pittas and mezze. The response was immediate and enthusiastic, with one person commenting:
“I’ve been here for 10 years, and eating from Mamoosh today is the best food I’ve had in Parliament. It’s delicious, nutritious and truly amazing.”
That reaction perfectly reflected Mamoosh’s mission: to make healthy, honest food that never compromises on flavour.
Founded in 2015, Mamoosh Bakery has been supplying Sussex restaurants, independent retailers, caterers and hospitality businesses with natural ingredient, artisan white pittas and high fibre wholemeal pittas and pastries for nearly a decade. Today, Mamoosh employs 30 staff in Sussex and supplies customers locally, nationally, and online across the UK.
Rooted in Mediterranean craft, baked in Sussex
Mamoosh is led by founder Einat Chalmers, who comes from a Mediterranean foodie family and brought generations of traditional knowledge with her to the UK. Alongside her husband Gary, Einat has built a business rooted in artisan craft, wellbeing and social responsibility.
Mamoosh’s unique recipes use olive oil rather than processed fats, avoiding additives and preservatives while focusing on high-fibre, anti-inflammatory ingredients. Their foods are designed to support gut health, balanced diets and long-term wellbeing, without losing the authenticity of traditional middle eastern cuisine.
Einat reflects on the Parliamentary visit:
“Being invited to the Houses of Parliament as part of a Sussex food exhibition was an incredible moment for us. We were blown away by the response from MPs and Lords, and so proud to represent Sussex with food that reflects our values. It showed us just how much appetite there is for fresh, handcrafted pittas made properly.”
Supplying hospitality, retail and homes across the country
Mamoosh currently supplies a wide range of restaurants, hotels, cafés, bars and hospitality providers across London and the South of England, alongside independent retailers and food businesses. Customers nationwide can also order fresh pittas and bakery products directly through the Mamoosh website. Pittas can be delivered across the UK, while bakery products and fresh middle eastern dips can be ordered for Click & Collect from their café & deli, Mamoosh Riverside, in Newhaven, East Sussex.
Following the success of the Parliamentary exhibition, Mamoosh is now actively exploring expansion into the London market, where proximity makes it even easier to supply fresh pittas daily to food service and hospitality partners.
With strong logistics already in place and a growing reputation for quality, Mamoosh is well positioned to support London restaurants, hotels and caterers looking for reliable, high-quality Middle Eastern products made in Britain.
A business with purpose
Beyond baking, Mamoosh is committed to its local community and the future of traditional food skills. The bakery donates regularly to the local food bank and trains apprentices, helping to pass on artisan baking techniques to the next generation.
“We’re incredibly proud of our team,” Einat says. “Our staff share the same passion we do – for proper food, for craft, and for giving customers the very best pittas, dips and pastries in the UK.”
Showcasing Sussex on a national platform
The Houses of Parliament exhibition was a powerful reminder that small, independent food producers play a vital role in the UK’s food landscape. For Mamoosh, it marked not just a proud Sussex moment, but a meaningful step towards wider national recognition.
From Brighton to Westminster – and increasingly, to kitchens across the country – Mamoosh continues to bake and develop their pittas and middle eastern food that connects tradition, health and flavour, one pitta at a time.
