We've had a fantastic year here at Mamoosh. In trying times, it's tricky for independent businesses but what makes our business thrive is our ever-growing company of customers. Our customers love our pitta bread, and we really appreciate our customers! So please take a look back at 2022 with us.
A new-look website and social media
We began the year with a website designed by Julia and Oliver at Fine Marketing and welcomed our new social media editor, Toni, who revitalised our Instagram and Facebook pages. With a brand new look for both, we've had a great response from our retail and trade customers. Everything you need can be found on the website, from product information to home delivery and supplier information. Most importantly, you can buy our amazing pittas, and we deliver virtually anywhere in the country. We've welcomed loads of new followers on our platforms! What a great way to start the year!
We cooked for Ukraine.
We were devastated by the conflict in Ukraine. So we chose to support the #CookForUkraine campaign on our social platforms and in the deli by cooking Ukrainian-inspired dishes during March. Our customers were quick to get on board and help. We donated 100% of everything we raised to #Unicef, who continue to help families affected by the crisis.
Our outstanding team at Mamoosh
Our incredible team at Mamoosh are what makes us unique. We sadly said goodbye to head chef Gracjan and delivery driver Sean. They left behind a legacy of fantastic recipes and hard work. Likewise, this month (December), we wish Carli, Mamoosh's first employee, a very sad farewell. After five and half years, Carli has started a dog-walking business, and we wish her all the best for her future!
In the summer, we were blessed with two Ukrainian refugees, both called Olga, who joined us in the kitchen. We are grateful to both for the fantastic help they've been.
We have also had the pleasure of training Joe as a chef in our kitchen. Joe is now looking to apply to a professional cooking school. Good luck, Joe!
You shopped independent.
Our social platforms were buzzing when we participated in #CampaignShopIndependent
This campaign was created by Holly Tucker —founder of notonthehighstreet and Holly & Co — to simply share the love for independent businesses across the UK. As a small business, Mamoosh relies on the incredible support of our pitta-loving community. We got such a positive reaction to our post from our followers, and it's a vivid reminder of why we do what we do! We hope our customers continue to 'Shop Independent' in 2023!
Pittas and Porsches
In July, we welcomed the Porsche Club to Mamoosh Bakery and Deli. The event, organised by Stuttgart_South, saw over 70 Porsche owners roll up to the deli on a Saturday morning. We baked croissants, manakish, fresh artisan pittas and bread, plus deli favourites to feed the vast numbers of Porsche lovers and regulars that showed up to the spectacle. It was a brilliant day!
Mamoosh and Plumpton Apprenticeship
We need to invest in skills in our community. So this year, we joined a government apprenticeship scheme and took on a fantastic baker from Plumpton College in Sussex. Karl joined our bakery team to gain practical skills while studying at the college. If you have yet to taste his artisanal sourdough baguettes, you should. We're so proud of him.
Packing pittas for UK-wide delivery
This year, we had a boom in UK-wide retail and trade customers, which led to 1000s of pittas being sent to all corners of the UK. It was great to receive orders from North Wales to Bristol, to the centres of London and Edinburgh, and everywhere in between.
Mamoosh Bakery is proud to be artisanal: we source the finest authentic ingredients and use traditional pitta-making equipment. Every pitta is stared and finished by hand. We put a lot of love into our pitta bread, and we are glad they are loved all over the UK!
Mamoosh in the community.
We love supporting our local community in Newhaven and Sussex. We had a great time at Bar at the Bands, The Newhaven Fish Festival and Sussex Artwave. It's always fun to bring our food into the community and to meet our local customers and neighbours. We also support our local food bank and take leftover products for sharing in the community. We firmly believe that no one should go hungry.
Where to buy our pittas at local retailers
We have had a hectic year selling our pitta bread in retailers across East and West Sussex. Our list of stockists continues to grow in our local counties, in London and beyond! See our stockists page for more information
As always, we're regulars at Lewes and Shoreham Farmers' markets. It's where Mamoosh began life — as a market stall — and we love being part of the busy market scene. So come rain or shine, we will continue to bring our fresh pittas, bakery and deli products to you in the community.
It's been a bumper year, and we cannot wait to continue our journey with our customers in 2023!
